MCSD will allow any interested parents / guardians of MCSD students in the rising 6th – 12th grades the opportunity to apply to Lighthouse Virtual Academy for the 2026-2027 school year. Lighthouse Virtual Academy is not an appropriate instructional model for all students. Parents should carefully review the information on this website and consider whether Lighthouse Virtual Academy is an appropriate environment for their child. If your student has not been successful as a virtual student in the past, consider the Checklist for a Successful Virtual Learner and this website when making the best decision for your student. If you answered false on the checklist, virtual learning may not be an appropriate choice for your student. Additionally, students must have attained a 70% or higher on grades in classes attempted during the 2025-2026 school year, be on or within two years of grade level in Reading and Math, no discipline incidents which resulted in suspension or expulsion during the 2025-2026 school year, and no chronic absenteeism. Additionally, we take into consideration their GMAS scores as well.
Students who will be in 6th – 12th grades next year (2026-2027) may apply to enroll full time at Lighthouse Virtual Academy. Lighthouse Virtual Academy is Muscogee County’s virtual option for 6th – 12th grades.

We welcome students who have previously been home-schooled. Students who wish to apply to Lighthouse Virtual Academy will need to first register and enroll in the Muscogee County School District in order to apply to Lighthouse Virtual Academy.
Students who elect to attend Lighthouse Virtual Academy are asked to make a year-long commitment. This year-long commitment is necessary because due to the nature of Lighthouse curriculum, leaving mid-year may negatively impact a student’s credits and progress toward graduation. However, students will be permitted to return to their districted school within the first 10 days of the school year.
Lighthouse Virtual Academy is a program of choice, and it will not be right for all students. Lighthouse Administrators will be vigilant in reviewing student success indicators. Students whose grades or other indicators show that they are not successful will be placed on a “Probationary” status, and Lighthouse Administrators will engage in discussion with the student and parent/guardian to create a plan. Lighthouse Administrators may elect, in their discretion, to remove a student from Lighthouse Virtual Academy at the close of the semester/year.

Students with disabilities or other accommodation needs who meet eligibility criteria are welcomed to apply to Lighthouse Virtual Academy. The Individual Education Plans (IEP) or Section 504 or Health Plans of student applicants who meet Lighthouse Virtual Academy entrance criteria will be considered on an individualized basis in order to determine whether Lighthouse Virtual Academy can provide appropriate supports, services, and accommodations. Supports and services that can be offered by Lighthouse Virtual Academy must be deemed appropriate to meet the student’s needs, and this determination requires an individualized analysis.
Students may participate in sports and other extracurricular activities such as clubs and dances at their attendance zoned home school only. Please note that participation is subject to Georgia High School Association rules and eligibility where applicable.
